# Agent Settings (DS Agent/ES Agent)

#Overview

Print Information Remote Monitoring

The “Epson's Smart Charge” is a print information remote monitoring system used for remote service.
The remote service uses a Device Status Agent (DS Agent) or an Embedded Status Agent (ES Agent) to send print information necessary for the Epson Smart Charge system, from the printer to the ERMS Infra, via the customer's internet environment or a remote terminal. The general term used for this system is “Remote Service”.
The information collected by the ERMS Infra is sent to the Epson Smart Charge billing system as well. This section describes the procedure for setting up the DS Agent and ES Agent that automatically read the printer's print information.

Note / 補足

The DS Agent is installed on the user’s PC. The ES Agent can be activated on the printer CE special mode. A remote terminal can be used by connecting it to the printer via USB and activating it in the CE special mode.

important / 重要

When using only a printer ES Agent, the NTP server is not set. Operation is not guaranteed if an NTP server is set for Epson smart charge machines.

Hardware Requirements

Agent software compatible models list and PC system requirements.
Here is a list of the compatible models for each agent software. Note that the DS Agent has also PC system requirements.

PC System Requirements for the DS Agent Installation

• Recommended configuration
  CPU   : 1.0 GHz Pentium or equivalent processor.
  RAM  : 256 MB
  HDD : Requires up to 100 MB of free space.
• Minimum configuration
  CPU   : 400MHz Pentium or equivalent processor.
  RAM  :  96MB
  HDD : Requires up to 100 MB of free space.

Note / 補足

When installing a NET Framework, a maximum of 500 MB of free space is required on the HDD. Refer to the Microsoft website for system requirements.

Software Requirements

For the settings at the time of the installation, the DS Agent requires having PC administrator authority, the ES Agent and remote terminals require accessing the CE special mode to do the operation.

The icon on the left is displayed in the task tray menu after installing the DS Agent, as a sign that administrator rights are required. "Software update check" is grayed out when the network is not connected.

Support OS

The operating environment for DS Agent is confirmed on .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 and .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 operating on the following OS.

• Microsoft Windows Server 2016
• Microsoft Windows Server 2019
• Microsoft Windows Server 2022

important / 重要

Operating systems other than those listed above are not guaranteed to work and will not be covered by the manufacturer's warranty. If you are prompted to install Microsoft .NET Framework when installing a DS Agent, download and install it. Install the DS Agent again after installing Microsoft .NET Framework.

Microsoft .NET Framework Installation

1. If you are prompted to install Microsoft .NET Framework when installing a DS Agent, download and install it.
   Click [Yes] to display the Microsoft.NET Framework download site.

2. On the Microsoft .NET Framework download screen, select ".NET Framework 3.5 SP1".

3. Click the download button.

4. After that, follow the instructions on the screen to proceed with the installation.

• When installing a NET Framework, a maximum of 500 MB of free space is required on the HDD. Refer to the Microsoft website for the system requirements.
  

DS Agent Service

The DS Agent is registered as a Windows service during the setup.
Details are as follows.

• Service Name: DS Agent
• Displayed Name: Device Status Agent
• Explanation: Device Status System
• Startup Type: Automatic
• Network Settings
  • Conditions of use:
    • Websites on the Internet must be accessible via HTTPS using the IPv4 protocol.
    • The upload speed to the Internet must be 512 Kbps or higher.
    • DNS must be set on the PC or printer so that the IP address can be resolved from the host name.
